NIMC warns of fake NIN correction phishing scams targeting Nigerians
NIMC has alerted Nigerians to fraudulent social media posts promoting fake 'free portals' for correcting National Identification Number records. The commission warns these posts contain phishing links designed to steal personal information from unsuspecting users. The advisory was issued Tuesday on NIMC's X handle. All NIN updates and corrections should ONLY be done through NIMC's official self-service portal accessible via the official NIMC portal. The fake portal being circulated online has no connection with the commission. NIMC assures citizens the National Identity Database remains secure and protected. If you encounter suspicious messages claiming to offer free NIN modification services, report them to appropriate authorities and rely only on verified NIMC communication channels for identity management services.
