NITDA issued a statement on Monday denying any affiliation with the CPM online earning platform, which is reportedly demanding additional payments from users to resolve allegedly hacked systems. The agency described the reports as false and misleading, emphasizing that as Nigeria's IT regulator, NITDA does not request money to provide incident response support or assist private entities with cybersecurity incidents.

The fraudulent platform appears to be using NITDA's name to exploit affected individuals under the guise of resolving cybersecurity incidents or recovering lost investments. NITDA warned that this pattern indicates possible social engineering and fraudulent activity targeting online users who have previously invested in such platforms.

Nigerians are strongly advised to avoid making any payments to entities claiming NITDA requires such operations, verify government involvement through official channels, report suspicious activities to authorities, and refrain from sharing sensitive personal or financial information with unverified platforms.
