NITDA inaugurated the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative Implementation Taskforce (NSCI-ITF) on Monday, August 23, 2026, to drive coordinated implementation of Nigeria's sovereign cloud framework. The taskforce will oversee regulatory instruments, institutional coordination, and monitoring while supporting indigenous capacity and investment mobilisation. This moves the initiative from framework development to execution, building on the National Cloud Computing Guideline, National Cloud Technical Guideline, National Digital Infrastructure Assurance Framework, and the National Cloud Investment Strategy signed in August 2026, as well as the National Digital Cloud Policy unveiled on August 18 targeting $750 million in private investment over 24 months for cloud and data-centre infrastructure.

The NSCI aims to strengthen Nigeria's digital sovereignty, create a secure and resilient cloud ecosystem, expand domestic cloud and data-centre capacity, increase indigenous participation, and position Nigeria as a trusted destination for cloud services in Africa. Private-sector momentum is already evident: Kasi Cloud launched the first phase of a 100-megawatt data centre in Lagos in May 2026, aiming to retain part of the estimated $850 million Nigerian businesses spend annually on foreign cloud services.

With the taskforce now operational, will indigenous tech firms see greater opportunities, and should businesses begin shifting workloads to locally hosted clouds as capacity grows?
