NLC and CSOs accuse the Federal Government and petroleum operators of exploiting Nigerians through repeated petrol price increases. Dangote Refinery raised its gantry price from ₦1,165 to ₦1,200 per litre within a week, pushing pump prices up in Abuja and across the country.

The NLC says the hike is unjustified given stable crude oil prices and an improved exchange rate, while CSOs warn that Nigerians already face rising transport costs, food inflation and declining purchasing power. IPMAN adds that marketers are forced to follow Dangote’s adjustments, arguing that stronger support for domestic refining could stabilise prices and ease foreign‑exchange pressure.

NLC and CSOs call on the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and other agencies to investigate possible anti‑competitive practices and ensure transparency in fuel pricing. They urge consumers to monitor pump prices, consider public transport or car‑pooling, and demand accountability from regulators, while urging the government to expedite the full operation of local refineries to stabilise costs.
