Nomba raises $3m debt to boost Central Africa cross-border payments
Nomba, a Nigerian fintech that helps businesses collect payments and access banking services, has secured a $3 million debt facility from CardinalStone Finance Company Limited. The funding will increase its USD liquidity through banking relationships in Hong Kong and Singapore, allowing Nomba to support more transactions and settle payments faster across existing and new trade corridors.
The move comes as trade between the Democratic Republic of Congo and China reached $26.7 billion in 2025, with China importing $21.6 billion from the DRC and exporting $5.1 billion worth of goods. Nomba, which began operating in the DRC in November 2025 and has since piloted a DRC-to-Zambia corridor, says it processes more than $480 million in cross-border payments each month from its DRC operations and a Canadian-licensed money service business. It plans to raise another $20 million to $50 million in debt in stages to work toward a goal of handling $1 billion in monthly payments.
Earlier this year, Nomba disclosed that its 18-month credit partnership with Globus Bank disbursed up to $15.3 million to Nigerian businesses, with less than 1% of the loans classified as non-performing.
If you're engaged in DRC-Asia trade or looking for reliable cross-border payment solutions, would you consider using Nomba's expanded infrastructure to cut settlement times, or explore other fintech options for your business needs?
