North-West governors have adopted a joint 'Peace, Security and Development Framework' covering 2026-2030 to tackle the region's persistent challenges. The framework was approved during the third North-West Governors' Forum meeting in Abuja on March 28, chaired by Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

The initiative responds to interconnected security threats including banditry, organized crime, and socio-economic difficulties affecting millions across the zone. Governor Radda stressed that closer state collaboration is essential, calling the framework a 'roadmap' that must translate to real benefits for citizens.

Key decisions include restructuring the regional secretariat—requiring its Director-General to first present work plans to the forum chairman before member state ratification. The secretariat will also guide states on aligning budgets with regional priorities. Additionally, governors acknowledged Katsina and Zamfara's progress on IDP policies and urged other states to adopt similar plans. They directed the secretariat to engage state statisticians to improve data management for evidence-based planning.

While the framework outlines shared priorities, specific implementation timelines, funding mechanisms, and measurable targets remain to be detailed. The success of this regional approach depends on states moving beyond statements to coordinated action.

Will this finally break the cycle of insecurity in the North-West through genuine cooperation, or will political differences and resource constraints limit its impact?
