NSIA, Africa50 launch $300m Nigeria DRE Fund to scale renewable energy investments
The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Africa50, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) have commercially launched the $300 million Nigeria Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Fund, marking the shift from fund structuring to active capital deployment in off-grid solar and mini-grids nationwide. The World Bank contributed $25 million as a founding partner, signaling strong investor confidence in Nigeria's renewable energy sector.
This fund directly supports Nigeria's ambition to expand reliable, affordable sustainable energy access while advancing Mission 300's goal of connecting 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030. It targets underserved communities and businesses lacking grid access, aiming to mobilize private capital for scalable distributed renewable energy solutions that traditional infrastructure has failed to reach.
With the fund now operational, investors can participate in Nigeria's growing renewable energy sector while Nigerians stand to gain improved energy access for homes and businesses. The partnership model—combining NSIA's local expertise, Africa50's investment capacity, SEforALL's energy access focus, and World Bank backing—is designed to be replicated across Africa. Will this fund finally bridge Nigeria's energy access gap for your community or business, and how might you engage with this emerging investment opportunity?
