Obono-Obla: My faith in APC badly shaken

Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, a former presidential aide and long-time APC member, has publicly expressed profound disillusionment with the party following its national convention earlier this week. Obono-Obla, who served as chairman of the Special Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Property under ex-President Buhari, had sought the National Secretary position but was told the existing zoning arrangement stood, allowing the incumbent to retain the seat. He then attempted to contest for National Publicity Secretary and was again denied. In a statement titled ‘Reflections on My Party Journey’ issued in Calabar, he wrote, "My faith in the Party to which I have given my all since 2013 is now badly shaken." He detailed how he was prevented from contesting a Senate ticket in 2022 but continued working tirelessly for the party's success in the 2023 elections, only to see newer members, with leadership support, pushing out founding members. He affirmed his personal principles remain unshaken but called for deep reflection on the party's path forward as the struggle for relevance continues.
