UNESCO warns Igbo language faces extinction, prompting Ohanaeze Ndigbo to establish four Professorial Endowment Chairs. Four professors appointed: Prof. Ngozi U. Emeka-Nwobia (Ebonyi), Prof. Boniface M. Mbah (UNN), Prof. Frances N. Chukwu-Kere (IMSU), Prof. Mercy N. Nnyigide (NAU). Selection based on merit and dedication to Igbo studies. Initiative aims to institutionalize research into language, history, and culture across seven Igbo-speaking states. President-General John Azuta Mbata calls it critical intervention against urbanization and global migration pressures. Scholars commit to advancing Igbo knowledge and documentation. Ohanaeze seeks broader support beyond NEC to sustain the initiative.
