OPay has launched two new security features—Emergency Lock and Safety PIN—to help Nigerians protect their money during emergencies. Emergency Lock lets users freeze their OPay account with one tap; the freeze lasts 24 hours and cannot be lifted by the user or customer service until it expires, blocking all outgoing transfers, bill payments and card transactions. Safety PIN works similarly but is triggered discreetly when a user is forced to make a transfer; entering the secret PIN instantly locks the account for 24 hours without alerting the aggressor. Both features address real‑world risks like phone theft, robbery and coercion, shifting the focus from recovering losses to preventing them. To use them, open the OPay app, go to the Security Centre and toggle Emergency Lock or set up a Safety PIN. OPay, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC, says the tools give users immediate control over their funds in moments of uncertainty. Will you activate Emergency Lock or set a Safety PIN to keep your money safe the next time you feel threatened?
