Oseni alleges NDC lawsuit filed soon after Obi joined, claims sabotage
Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni said on June 29, 2026 that a lawsuit seeking to nullify the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was filed on May 5, just two days after Peter Obi officially joined the party on May 3. Oseni alleged the timing shows a coordinated effort to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting a similar pattern in the recent case against the African Democratic Congress (ADC) whose judgement he criticised. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue the issuance code that would allow the NDC to upload required documents, warning that any action perceived as limiting opposition participation could erode public confidence in the electoral process. Oseni warned that further legal challenges may follow and urged INEC to allow opposition parties to compete freely.
