Oseni Rufai vows to keep speaking truth to power after TV clash

Arise News anchor Oseni Rufai has vowed to continue speaking truth to power despite opposition, following a heated exchange on Friday's live broadcast of The Morning Show. During the programme, Rufai asked Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, to explain why former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Betta Edu—who faces corruption allegations—was included in the presidential campaign council. Olayinka refused to answer, objected to Rufai's earlier use of the Yoruba phrase 'Gbewudani', and said he would not respond to questions from the anchor. Fellow anchor Ayo Mairo-Ese intervened, reminding Olayinka that guests should expect questions from any of the show's three hosts. When Olayinka persisted in his refusal, the interview was abruptly ended.

Rufai said Nigerians' messages of support strengthened his resolve. He drew a parallel to labour leader Pa Michael Imoudu's 1945 strike, noting that Imoudu faced opposition not only from colonial authorities but also from Nigerians who benefited from the colonial system. It takes a trained mind to see oppression, Rufai declared, adding that those who profit from Nigeria's ruin will never agree with critics, and they ought not to.
