Over 67% of Nigerians demand fuel subsidy reinstatement per SBM Intelligence's September survey, rejecting current petrol pricing. The poll of 1,103 voters nationwide shows petrol jumped to second-biggest concern at 18.2% (up from absent in Wave 1), with government scoring 1.69/4 - its worst performance on any issue.
Prices now reach N1,400-1,450/litre: Lagos N1,400-1,430, Abuja N1,400-1,450. Rural voters (32.4%) and Southwest residents (30.5%) feel petrol most acutely, followed by South-South (29.1%). Concern rises with age - from 19.6% (18-24) to 27.6% (55+).
While insecurity leads nationally, petrol tops worries in Southwest/South-South. Atiku (ADC) promises subsidy restoration if elected 2027; NLC chief Joe Ajaero demands wage awards to cushion costs. NMDPRA admitted Sept 19 it lacks power to fix prices, promising only market surveillance. Tinubu pointed to N3.5bn saved via Kaduna's CNG buses in year one.
