Owen Oseni delighted with maiden Super Eagles call-up
Owen Oseni says he was in "disbelief" after earning his first invitation to the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup invitational tournament and friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June. The 23-year-old Plymouth Argyle striker, born in Ireland to a Nigerian father and Ivorian mother, chose to represent Nigeria despite being eligible for three countries.
Oseni expressed excitement about representing the three-time African champions: "I know I had an alright season, but to get called up for a country where there's more than 240 million people and probably 50% want to play for their country was quite a big deal for me so I was really buzzing." The former St Mirren star will link up with teammates like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi for the first time.
The striker is expected to join the Super Eagles this weekend for the Unity Cup tournament. He'll then participate in international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, marking a significant milestone in his career after representing Ireland at youth level before choosing Nigeria.
