Several thousand people protested in Paris on January 25, 2026, over the death in custody of 35-year-old El Hacen Diarra, a Mauritanian immigrant worker. Diarra died at the police station of Paris's 20th arrondissement after being violently arrested on January 14. Video footage showed a policeman punching Diarra while another officer stood by. The protesters, including Diarra's family members, marched to the local police station, calling for justice and truth. The family has filed a legal complaint accusing security forces of 'intentional violence that led to a death.' Paris police have launched an internal investigation. Will the French government take concrete steps to address the growing allegations of police violence and racism?
