Pat Utomi, Professor of Political Economy and Deputy Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Manifesto and Policy Committee, said on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, that unseen hands are working to disrupt the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. He noted that every political party contains good, bad and ugly elements, and that these negative forces can be used by outside actors to undermine opposition.

Utomi warned that such interference erodes public confidence in democracy, echoing a broader trend where African people desire democratic governance but leaders block its realization, leaving citizens hopeless. He urged urgent national efforts to save the country from this democratic backslide.

What should Nigerians know or do? Citizens should stay informed about party activities, demand transparency from political leaders, and support initiatives that strengthen opposition unity and electoral integrity. As 2027 approaches, will you contribute to safeguarding democracy by monitoring political developments and holding leaders accountable?
