House of Representatives Minority Leader Fred Agbedi said on Arise Television’s Morning Show that the Peoples Democratic Party ("PDP") would win the 2027 general election if former President Goodluck Jonathan appears on the ballot. Agbedi noted that Jonathan has not officially declared his intention to run for 2027 but has also not ruled it out. Speaking on party preparations, he acknowledged internal divisions between the Wike and Turaki factions over who should be the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, expressing confidence that the party’s internal judgement will favour their side. He also recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission ("INEC") had rejected Jonathan’s nomination submitted by the Turaki faction because nominations must be submitted through INEC’s designated online portal, in line with electoral regulations. Agbedi’s comments highlight the Peoples Democratic Party’s reliance on Jonathan’s potential candidacy to boost electoral prospects and underscore the ongoing factional tussle that could shape the party’s nominee. For voters, this signals that the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2027 prospects may hinge on whether Jonathan decides to run and how the party resolves its internal contest; aspirants must comply with INEC’s online nomination process to be considered.
