Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi says Nigerians deserve to live in peace, not at the mercy of terror. In a post on his verified X handle, Obi lamented the breakdown of governance and humanity in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region. He described reports of terrorists ordering citizens to flee ancestral homes as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stating non-state actors have assumed state authority. "This is not how a nation should function," Obi wrote, calling it a national emergency where the government's primary responsibility to protect lives and property has failed. "Nigerians deserve to live in peace, not at the mercy of terror," he emphasized.
