Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), said he had no role in forming the OK Movement Presidential Campaign Council during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, September 24, 2026. He stated that the OK Movement, led by John Ughulu, is merely a supporting group and should not assume party functions like setting up a campaign council. Obi emphasized that the NDC is the party they all belong to and that he fully backs the position of NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson, who called the council’s creation “nonsensical” and urged the OK Movement to be reined in.

The disclosure highlights a growing rift within the NDC as allied groups attempt to establish parallel structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. For voters, it raises questions about party unity and whether internal disputes could weaken Obi’s campaign or distract from policy messaging. The OK Movement, which emerged from the Obidient support base, has been active in mobilizing grassroots backing but now appears to be overstepping its intended role.

With the NDC facing internal tension over campaign structures, how might this affect your confidence in Obi’s 2027 bid, and what role should supporting groups play in a political party’s electoral machinery?
