Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi held closed-door meetings with former South African President Thabo Mbeki and former Botswana President Ian Khama in Cape Town today (May 25, 2026). The discussions focused on regional immigration issues, peace, and unity across Africa. Obi later traveled to Johannesburg where he attended the Thabo Mbeki Africa Day lecture, reconnecting with former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi who delivered a keynote address on rebuilding unity and strengthening African institutions. Both Khama and Mbeki continue to command significant respect across the continent due to their contributions during and after their presidencies, according to Obi's statement.
