Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi visited Kano on Sunday to celebrate Sallah with former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. During the event, Obi stated his commitment to restoring Kano's dying factories in Bompai, Sharada 1, Sharada 2, and the Bank of the North. He framed this as economic revival rather than politics, saying 'We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano.' The visit occurred alongside Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde and Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson, suggesting potential opposition coalition dynamics ahead of 2027 elections. This follows Kwankwaso's recent defection from the NNPP to APC, ending a decades-long political partnership. Obi's pledge addresses Kano's struggling industrial sector and capitalised Bank of the North, though electoral law restricts campaign activities until later in the year.
