Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi criticized INEC's withdrawal of recognition from ADC party leadership led by David Mark, suggesting the commission is being used by government to frustrate opposition. Speaking on Arise TV's Prime Time today, Obi emphasized that governments should support strong opposition for progress, questioning why those who previously criticized undemocratic approaches now use INEC against opposition parties.

INEC maintains its action was based on legal considerations, with the matter subject to judicial determination. Despite regulatory concerns and internal disputes, ADC plans to proceed with its national convention scheduled for today, April 14. Obi confirmed he will attend the convention and expressed confidence in its outcome, though acknowledged INEC might refuse to recognize the result, potentially leading to further legal battles.

The ADC has been embroiled in a protracted leadership tussle with rival factions claiming control of the party. Obi drew historical parallels to late President Yar'Adua's positive intervention during APGA's political crisis, stressing the importance of strong opposition in a functioning democracy. This development deepens uncertainty within ADC as legal disputes continue to shape its trajectory ahead of future elections.
