Peter Obi Says Good Governance Key to Nigeria’s Prosperous Future
Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, posted on his verified X account on Wednesday that good governance and competent leadership are the only means to secure Nigeria's bright future. He made the remark during a high-level roundtable hosted by the European Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, Germany, under the theme Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond.
He argued that Nigeria already possesses the human and natural resources needed to become prosperous, secure and globally competitive, but that realizing this potential requires accountable, compassionate leadership that prioritises investment in people, education, healthcare, productive enterprise, the rule of law and strong institutions over the politics of consumption. This vision directly affects everyday Nigerians' access to quality schools, hospitals, jobs and reliable public services.
He urged a deliberate shift from consumption to production, from poverty to prosperity and from division to unity, stressing that fiscal responsibility and productive partnerships with the international community can build an economy that works for all Nigerians.
