Breaking: Peter Obi, NDC presidential candidate, told the BBC that unlike former President Muhammadu Buhari, he would remain in charge of his administration if elected president of Nigeria. He criticised Buhari’s handling of corruption and vowed to tackle graft and return the fuel subsidy.

Obi linked corruption directly to the fuel subsidy, arguing that removing theft could cut subsidy costs by half. He said, "If you are not stealing, if you are not involved, and your wife and family are not involved, then you reduce it by 50 per cent." He promised to bring back the subsidy once corruption is eliminated.

This pledge touches on a major pocket‑book issue for Nigerians, as fuel prices affect transport, food and business costs. As the 2027 election nears, voters must weigh whether Obi’s plan to clean up the subsidy and restore it is realistic and how it compares with the current administration’s approach.
