Peter Obi's NDC move not final destination - LP chieftain
Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi has emerged as presidential flag bearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for 2027 general elections. This comes after Obi's defection from the Labour Party where he contested the 2023 presidential election.
Dr Abayomi Arabambi, Labour Party National Vice Chairman (South West), insists Obi's move to NDC is not his "final destination." Arabambi argues that Obi cannot "destabilise the Labour Party and simply move on without consequences," suggesting he will face "serious political pushback from those still within the party structure."
The Labour Party chieftain emphasized that "no one can impose themselves without broad acceptance" in the competitive political space, stating the final decision "rests with Nigerians" who will evaluate candidates on governance, accountability, and anti-corruption credentials. This development signals a significant realignment in Nigeria's opposition political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.
