The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, outlining how the incident escalated into a deadly crisis. According to reports, the unrest began on March 25, 2026, when a 17-year-old herder, Ado Yau, was allegedly shot by a vigilante member, Sunday Adoye, during a dispute over alleged farmland trespass. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); The Command revealed that it received a distress call around 9:00 a.m. from a Fulani leader, Hardo Gidado, who reported that earlier at about 8:30 a.m., a group of herders had entered Adoye’s farmland. The herders were reportedly cutting leaves from mango trees to feed their cattle, which led to a confrontation. In the course of the altercation, Adoye, aged 40, allegedly withdrew to his residence, returned with a pump-action gun, and shot the teenager, who died on the spot. The killing reportedly triggered a reprisal attack, as other herders mobilized and stormed the Unguwan Yobe community. The ensuing violence left four people injured and resulted in the destruction of property, including four houses, two vehicles, and three motorcycles set ablaze. Nansel further stated that two more persons, Muhammadu Ibrahim, 25, and Ado Gambo, 18, lost their lives during efforts by military personnel deployed to restore calm. Security operatives were subsequently dispatched to the area, where the dead and injured were evacuated to the Mararaba Medical Centre for treatment and examination. The police confirmed the arrest of the prime suspect, Sunday Adoye, and the recovery of the firearm used in the shooting. In addition, 15 other male suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Police stated that investigations are ongoing, while security presence has been reinforced with intensified patrols and surveillance across the affected community and neighbouring areas under the Karu Area Command.
