Nigeria Police Force has opened an investigation into alleged inciting remarks by Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Sainna Buba, Osun East Senator Francis Fadahunsi, and Kuje Area Council Chairman Danjuma Shekwolo. Buba is accused of threatening to flog residents and cut off the hands of those who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections. Shekwolo reportedly told Kuje residents they must back the APC in 2027 or leave the council. Fadahunsi was seen in a viral video ahead of the Osun governorship election allegedly threatening members of the Accord Party. Police spokesperson CSP Anietie Iniedu said making inciting comments about elections is a criminal offence and that Fadahunsi has already been questioned. He urged the public to provide any evidence - such as videos or recordings - to help build cases, noting that witnesses often fail to come forward. The police said every allegation is under investigation and outcomes will be released, while urging political stakeholders to avoid such statements. The development comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, raising concerns about election-related violence and intimidation. Will you report any evidence of inciting remarks you encounter, or remain silent and risk allowing such threats to go unchecked?
