Udenta Udenta, political scientist and former AD national secretary, said on Channels TV's Sunday Politics that any southern strong candidate like Peter Obi paired with a credible northern running mate would defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. He stressed that regional balance is key for a broad-based opposition alliance.

He linked worsening economic conditions to voter sentiment, noting Nigerians' longing for the Buhari era shows Tinubu's failure; living standards, not macro stats, will decide votes. He also pointed out the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a possible coalition platform for Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi, recalling that in 2023 the combined votes of Obi, Atiku, and Rabiu Kwankwaso exceeded 15 million, surpassing Tinubu's total.

The APC, backed by 31 governors, is strengthening its structures for re-election. With economic hardship shaping voter behavior, the opposition's ability to field a balanced ticket could determine 2027 outcome. Will opposition leaders unite behind a southern-northern ticket, and how will voters respond to economic realities when choosing between the incumbent and a unified challenger?
