Pope Leo XIV called for immediate peace in Ukraine during his Sunday address, stating 'Peace cannot be postponed' as the country marks four years since Russia's invasion. The American-born pontiff urged hearts to embrace peace and decisions to translate it into action, renewing his appeal for weapons to fall silent and ceasefires to be reached without delay. 'May the bombings cease, may a ceasefire be reached without delay, and may dialogue be strengthened to open the way to peace,' he said in St Peter's Square. The war has shattered towns, uprooted millions, and killed large numbers on both sides since February 24, 2022, with Moscow occupying close to a fifth of Ukrainian territory. Despite heavy losses and repeated Ukrainian strikes, Moscow continues grinding forward in the Donbas region. The United States is pushing for peace talks, brokering recent rounds without clear breakthroughs.
