Pope Leo XIV has issued a passionate appeal for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Middle East conflict, urging all parties to halt hostilities and return to dialogue. In a post on X, the pontiff emphasized the need for peace on behalf of Christians and all people of goodwill, stating violence cannot lead to justice or stability. His call comes as the war, initiated by US and Israeli strikes on Iran during negotiations, has escalated across West Asia, resulting in over 2000 deaths including 168 Iranian school girls. Last week, the pope mourned the death of Lebanese priest Pierre El-Rahi killed by Israeli tank fire in Southern Lebanon. Despite Oman's repeated mediation attempts, the White House has rejected ceasefire talks, with both sides indicating a protracted conflict. The pope's appeal faces rejection from all parties, suggesting no immediate resolution is imminent.
