President Tinubu approves N3.9tn road projects across 15 states
President Bola Tinubu has approved 27 road projects worth over N3.9 trillion across 15 states, Minister of Works David Umahi announced on Monday, June 29, 2026. The package includes N1.8 trillion for the dual carriageway of a 409‑kilometre road in Niger State under a tax‑credit scheme awarded to Aliko Dangote, N276 billion for the dualisation of the Ilorin‑Ogbomoso road, N265 billion for the Iseyin‑Eruwa‑Agbesi road spanning Oyo and Kwara states, and N217 billion for the old alignment Ijaye‑FGC‑Ilorin road with a spur to Akinmorin. Other major allocations cover the rehabilitation of the Enugu‑Abakaliki road with a flyover (N86 billion), the Jimeta‑Mayo Belwa road in Adamawa (N83 billion), and the first 118 km of the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano highway, already completed at N137 billion. The projects cut across Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe states. Improved road networks are expected to cut travel times, lower transport costs, boost trade and create jobs across the regions. How might these road upgrades affect your daily commute or business logistics, and what should you watch for in upcoming contract awards and project timelines?
