Primate Ayodele Says Tinubu-backing Bishops Hungry, Not Divinely Guided
Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, said Nigerian bishops who endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term did so out of hunger, not divine direction. In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, he claimed the bishops are seeking personal gain and are not motivated by love for Tinubu or God's will, adding that they are 'only lying on God's name because of food.' Ayodele warned Tinubu not to celebrate the endorsement, calling it fake and stressing that endorsements mean nothing; only his performance in office can secure or cost him a second term. He said politicians praising Tinubu for a second term are similarly driven by selfish interests and would turn against him if their demands are not met, noting they would be the first to endorse another candidate. Ayodele urged the president to focus on governance rather than rely on endorsements, insisting that Tinubu must know that endorsements cannot get him near a second term if he doesn't perform well for the people, and that it would be better if he buckled up and put his house in order instead of allowing the endorsements to get into his head.
