PRP declares former Cross River Governor Donald Duke as 2027 presidential candidate
People's Redemption Party (PRP) on Tuesday declared former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections. Mr Duke secured the ticket with 6,499 votes in the party's primary election at the national secretariat in Abuja.
His closest rival, Kingsley Yakubu, who campaigned on youth inclusion and economic reform, received 2,699 votes. Academic and policy expert Nnaoke Ufere placed third with 784 votes.
PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed described the election as free, credible, and unbiased, with any aggrieved contestants directed to the party's appeal committee.
This development adds another option to the growing field of presidential candidates for the 2027 elections, potentially challenging the dominance of major parties. With Duke's previous executive experience as Cross River Governor from 1999-2007, PRP hopes to attract voters seeking alternative leadership.
