Renewable energy: $4m injected into expansion of solar mini-grids in Nigeria
The Federal Government’s push for clean energy got a $4 million boost from All On and Energise Africa to develop solar-powered mini-grids across 19 communities in Jigawa and Bauchi states. This investment, part of the Demand Aggregation for Renewable Energy Technology (DART) programme under Nigeria’s Energy Transition and Investment Plans (ETIP), aims to deliver reliable, affordable electricity to households, schools, health facilities and small businesses, impacting about 100,000 people while supporting local enterprise and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On, said decentralised solar infrastructure enables economic and social activity in areas where grid access remains limited. Ray Coyle, CEO of Energise Africa, added that UK-backed investment will create lasting social, economic and environmental benefits for thousands. The project aligns with ETIP’s targets of 277 GW installed capacity and over 104,000 mini-grids by 2030, projected to save $686.8 billion in fuel costs by 2060. The Federal Government has also established a Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO) to manage such assets.
