Reps Urge MDAs to Stop Rejecting NYSC Corps Members
The House of Representatives has urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to stop rejecting members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted for mandatory service. The resolution, adopted during plenary on Thursday June 4, 2026, follows concerns about government establishments denying young graduates valuable work experience.
Lawmaker Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, who sponsored the motion, noted that the rejection trend leaves corps members vulnerable to exploitation by private organizations and exposes some to criminal activities due to lack of proper engagement. He warned that this wastes public resources as the Federal Government continues paying monthly stipends to graduates not effectively utilized in their assigned places.
Following the adoption, the House called on all MDAs including the National Assembly to desist from rejecting corps members and develop work schedules to effectively integrate them. The Committee on Youth Development has been mandated to liaise with the NYSC Director-General to create a framework for corps member engagement throughout their service year.
