Rivers Senator Mpigi Dies At 64
Senator Barinada Mpigi, 64, died February 19, 2026 after a brief illness. The Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, led a delegation of Rivers leaders to London to pay respects to Mpigi's family, describing him as a "dependable ally" who stood by friends through "trying times." Wike assured the family of continued support and a befitting burial. Mpigi served in the 10th National Assembly and previously two terms in the House of Representatives (2011-2019). He chaired the Senate Committee on Works, influencing federal infrastructure oversight. A PDP stalwart from Tai LGA, Ogoni region, he was widely respected for infrastructure development and educational empowerment initiatives.
