On June 15, 2026, a Russian barrage of missiles and drones killed at least 11 people across Ukraine, including five in Kyiv and five rescue workers and a civil servant in Kharkiv. The strike hit the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra UNESCO world heritage site, setting fire to the roof of its Dormition Cathedral. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the damaged monastery, calling the attack one of Russia’s most serious crimes against Christian culture and saying two Russian drones deliberately targeted the monastery quarter. He also reiterated his willingness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in the United States, describing it as an offer Putin would find harder to refuse.

Russia’s military said it carried out a "massive strike" on military sites in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro but denied targeting the Lavra, claiming it was hit by an outdated US Patriot air-defence missile. Ukrainian air forces reported downing 50 of 70 missiles and 582 of 611 drones fired by Russia. In retaliation, a Ukrainian drone strike killed three people and wounded three in Russia’s Tula region.

For Nigerians, the continued conflict influences global oil markets as Ukraine steps up attacks on Russian oil infrastructure to sap war funding. As a major oil exporter, Nigeria’s revenue and domestic fuel prices can be affected by such market shifts.

As the conflict continues to influence oil prices, will you adjust your fuel budget or expect stability in the coming weeks?
