Rwanda's central bank increased its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points to 7.25% to curb inflation, the largest hike since August 2023. Governor Soraya Hakuziyaremye announced the decision after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting. This move contrasts with other African nations easing rates as currencies strengthen and oil prices fall. The bank expects inflation to remain above 8% in the first half of 2026 but aims to return to the 2-8% target by year-end. Will you adjust your financial plans given this rate hike?
