SASSA grants increase from April 1, 2026
South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries will see small increases in most grants starting April 1, 2026. The COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant remains at R370 monthly until 2027. Permanent grants increase by 3.6-3.7% with specific amounts: Old age grant up R85 to R2,400; war veterans up R85 to R2,420; disability up R85 to R2,400; care dependency up R85 to R2,400; foster care up R40 to R1,290; child support up R20 to R580; grant-in-aid up R20 to R580. SRD grant unchanged at R370. Payments start April 2 for older persons, April 3 for disability, and April 6 for children's grants. SASSA will implement stricter eligibility checks and fraud prevention measures. Applications for SRD grant can be submitted online via srd.sassa.gov.za, WhatsApp (082 046 8553), or USSD (1347737#). Status checks available online, WhatsApp, SMS (STATUS to 32555), or by calling 080 060 1011. Permanent grant recipients must update banking details in person at SASSA offices by the 15th of each month; SRD grant changes can be made online. Apply before April 1 to ensure timely payment.
