Savannah Energy appoints Uyi Akpata as Non-Executive Director
Savannah Energy PLC, a British independent energy firm focused on African projects, has confirmed the appointment of Uyi Akpata as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. Following the release of its 2025 annual accounts and after a handover period, Akpata is slated to become Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. Joseph Pagop Noupoué, Savannah’s Non-Executive Chair, welcomed Akpata, citing his more than 40‑year career in audit, risk management and corporate governance, including senior roles at PwC Nigeria and West Africa, and his deep knowledge of the African energy sector. Akpata said he looks forward to contributing his expertise in governance, audit, risk oversight and energy to support Savannah’s growth and long‑term shareholder value. Before retiring from PwC on 30 June 2024, Akpata led audit work for major oil supermajors in Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and numerous emerging energy firms. He also founded Rusa Advisory in October 2024, advising on governance and risk management. Currently he chairs the boards of EmPLE Life Insurance and Unified Payments Limited, leads the Advisory Board of Unified Payments, serves as Chairman of the Unity Schools Old Students Association, heads the Nigerian Cricket Federation, and is a Professor of Practice in Financial Accounting at Miva Open University. He holds no shares in Savannah Energy. The appointment strengthens Savannah’s governance as it expands operations across Africa and pursues its growth strategy.
