Security expert: DSS can tackle terrorism if properly equipped - Ughegbe
DSS arrested five suspected terrorists including two foreign nationals, demonstrating security agencies can deliver results when properly equipped, according to activist Dr. Lemmy Ughegbe. Speaking on Arise News on Wednesday, Ughegbe stated "We are in trouble as a country; we must admit that," but emphasized the successful operation shows DSS "has the capacity, not just the potential, to generate credible and actionable intelligence." The operation revealed security agencies' ability to infiltrate terrorist networks and disrupt weapons movement. Ughegbe stressed intelligence gathering depends on public cooperation, urging Nigerians to report suspicious activities. "DSS officials are not spirits, they will not get information unless citizens provide it," he said. He blamed public complacency, noting many residents don't know their neighbors while criminals could live among them. Ughegbe called on political leaders to avoid politicizing security issues, arguing national security must take precedence over partisan interests. "Before politics, our citizenship and our safety must come first," he added.
