Senate demands JAMB reduce UTME fees, improve access
The Nigerian Senate has demanded JAMB reduce UTME fees from ₦3,500 to make education affordable, citing economic hardship. Chairman Amos Yohanna called for further reductions beyond the current ₦5,000 to ₦3,500 cut, stressing accessibility and fairness. The Senate also criticized technical glitches during registration/exams and limited CBT centres in rural areas, demanding greater transparency in JAMB's ₦23.8 billion 2026 revenue projections. JAMB maintains the fee reduction was already implemented and is expanding CBT centres nationwide.
