The Nigerian Senate will host the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from March 4-17, 2026, for a consultation on the country's economic outlook and reform programmes under President Bola Tinubu's administration. This follows the IMF's Article IV Consultation, a routine assessment of Nigeria's economic policies and financial stability. The meeting aims to provide lawmakers with deeper insight into the government's economic management framework and explore potential IMF support for ongoing reforms. The development was disclosed by Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin. Nigeria's economic growth is projected to accelerate to 4.4% in 2026, up from 3.4% in 2025, driven by services, agriculture, and non-oil industries. This optimism follows IMF and World Bank assessments that reforms like fuel subsidy removal and exchange-rate unification are stabilising the economy after periods of high inflation and oil production challenges.
