Sim Shagaya steps down as uLesson CEO after 8 years
Sim Shagaya, founder of Nigerian edtech uLesson Group, will transition from CEO to Executive Chairman effective June 2026. Iheanyi Akwitti, current Group Chief Academic Officer and Registrar, becomes CEO-Designate officially taking over January 1, 2027. Shagaya founded uLesson in 2019 after previously launching e-commerce platform Konga. Akwitti joined in 2022 from Supreme Education Foundation, helping expand the company beyond K-12 into higher education through Miva Open University launched in 2023. As CEO, Akwitti will oversee academic, operational, and institutional growth strategy across Africa's education sector. The transition comes a month after Shagaya announced his insurance startup Myka. What does this leadership change mean for uLesson's strategic direction in African education?
