News Soludo: No executive order can end sit-at-home – Kanu’s lawyer, Ejimakor Published on January 26, 2026 By Francis Ugwu googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1500386953281-8'); }); Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, has said that no executive order can bring an end to the sit-at-home observance in the South-East, insisting that it will only stop when the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is freed. Ejimakor made the assertion in a post on X on Monday, where he described the weekly Monday sit-at-home as evidence of widespread dissatisfaction among Igbo people over Kanu’s conviction. He said: “This truth is self-evident: The Monday SIT AT HOME in Southeast is the best evidence of how unhappy Ndigbo are over the travails of MAZI NNAMDI KANU & it will persist until he’s freed. And this: The #SitAtHome has reached a point where no Executive Order can end it; but it will end instantly on its own once #MNK is freed. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); Ejimakor added that the protest would persist until Kanu regains his freedom, adding that government directives alone cannot halt the action. His remarks came amid renewed efforts by the Anambra State Government to enforce normal business activities on Mondays. On Monday, Governor Chukwuma Soludo ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market for one week after traders reportedly failed to comply with the state’s directive to ignore the sit-at-home order. The Onitsha Main Market, regarded as one of the largest in West Africa, is a major commercial hub in the region. The state government maintained that the enforcement measures are part of efforts to restore economic stability and end disruptions caused by recurring sit-at-home protests.
