Sporting Lagos thrash Inter Lagos 3-0; Barau FC extend unbeaten run with 3-1 win
Sporting Lagos secured a 3-0 victory over local rivals Inter Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos on Sunday. Sodiq Ayoade struck in the seventh minute, with Aliyu Baba and Valentine Ogwu adding second-half goals to seal the derby win.
In Kano, Barau FC maintained their unbeaten streak with a 3-1 triumph over Ranchers Bees at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Ahmadu Liman gave Barau the lead just before the half-hour mark, but Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu levelled for Ranchers Bees ten minutes from time. Late goals from Kennedy Otunuya and Sugau Aliyu restored Barau’s advantage.
Elsewhere, Abia Warriors and Ikorodu City played to a 2-2 draw in Aba, with Emeka Obioma scoring twice for the Warriors and Ilechukwu Junior plus Akorede Adeoye netting for Ikorodu. At the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Bendel Insurance edged Kun Khalifat FC 4-2 after leading 3-0 through Alex Oweilayefa, Suraju Lawal and Chinedu Nwosu; a penalty from Uchechukwu Onuoha and a late goal by Oghenetega Ebetomame narrowed the gap but Chinedu Nwosu’s second restored Insurance’s cushion.
These results shake up the NPFL table: Sporting Lagos climb closer to the top four, Barau FC extend their unbeaten run to eight matches, and Bendel Insurance’s win boosts their push for continental qualification. With the league entering its decisive phase, fans should watch how these outcomes affect the title race and relegation battle—will Sporting’s derby momentum translate into a sustained challenge for the top spots, or will Barau’s consistency prove decisive as the season nears its close?
