Sterling Bank Limited has appointed Laoye Jaiyeola and Chinedu Ikwudinma as Independent Non-Executive Directors, effective August 17 and 20, 2026 respectively, following CBN approval. Jaiyeola brings 35+ years experience including former CBN leadership and roles at Kakawa Discount House and NESG. Ikwudinma offers 30+ years international banking, most recently as Group Chief Risk Officer at Ecobank.

These appointments strengthen Sterling Bank's board as it pursues a $400 million capital raise approved by shareholders to support expansion. The bank recently reported strong half-year profits of N55.53 billion (up 21.9% YoY), driven by growth in net interest income. Several long-serving directors retired to make way for the new appointments.

With seasoned financial experts now guiding governance alongside the capital initiative, will Sterling Bank's enhanced leadership translate into sustained growth and stability for Nigeria's banking sector?
