Sub-$200 phones dominate Nigeria's smartphone market
Nigeria's smartphone market grew 25% in Q4 2025, driven by affordable devices. 81% of Africa's 84.4 million shipments were priced below $200, cementing budget phones as the dominant segment. Nigeria recorded 147.52 million mobile internet connections but only 60% of citizens are online due to smartphone costs. Currency volatility previously spiked prices, but 2025 recovery saw 29% growth after exchange rate stability and financing schemes. Sub-$200 devices now represent 55% of Africa's total mobile handset shipments.
