Nigeria's Super Eagles face Mozambique's Mambas today in the 2026 AFCON, aiming to secure their place in the quarter-finals. A win would mark a record 18th time reaching that stage for the West Africans, who have only missed out three times in tournament history—on debut in Ghana 1963, Libya 1982, and four years ago in Cameroon.

Nigeria boasts three AFCON titles, five runner-up finishes, and eight bronze medals. The team holds a hundred percent record in Morocco, with three wins from three matches so far.

Mozambique coach Eric Chelle says his side is not intimidated and has offered huge bonuses to motivate his players to beat Nigeria. Nigerian coach Eric Chelle (sic: article lists same name for both coaches) admits the Super Eagles are under pressure to win.

Is this about Nigeria's historical dominance or Mozambique's chance to cause an upset?
