Super Eagles under pressure to beat Mozambique in AFCON Round of 16
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has declared that his team is under pressure to avoid an upset against Mozambique in tonight's AFCON 2025 Round of 16 clash. The three-time champions have a 100% record in the competition, winning all three group games, but Chelle is desperate to avoid a repeat of 2021 when they also won all group games but were eliminated by Tunisia in the Round of 16.
Chelle emphasized that the team is focusing solely on tonight's match before thinking about quarter-finals. "We want to win the next game. If God gives us the chance to go to the quarterfinal, we will think about the quarterfinal. But now we think about this game against Mozambique and for sure we want to win this game. Yeah we are under pressure," Chelle told a press conference.
The Super Eagles face Mozambique tonight in the knockout stage, needing a victory to advance. Chelle's men are desperate to maintain their winning momentum and avoid another early exit despite their strong group stage performance. NFF has confirmed that former Arsenal goalkeeper Okonkwo is now eligible for selection for Nigeria.
